Article deals with the concept of social capital and its types: relational social capital and system social capital. Relational social capital constitutes of positional capital, trust capital and obligation capital. System social capital constitutes of system control, system trust and system morality. System’s action persuades actors to accept system control, follow system trust and system morality. Analysis of interconnection between social capital and news media is conducted. Trust is an important component of social capital of relations as well as system social capital. Both social capital and news media are linked to ability of trust climate creation, influence to citizenship activity. A news media consumer often knows holding owner which contains channel, his / her political preferences which largely determine provision of information what forms trust or distrust towards such channel. It is concluded that social capital especially system social capital is required to be considered as an important resource of media education. Optimization of trust level to news media is one of the most important directions of media education for news media consumers of all ages.
